How To Clean Diamond Rings At Home

Posted by Hyde Park Jewelers on 14th Nov 2022

Diamond rings are probably the most precious pieces of jewelry that you can ever own. It is imperative that you take good care of them to maintain their brilliance. Makeup, perfume, hairspray, dirt, or any other foreign body can cover the rings and compromise their good looks. However, a simple home cleaning routine can bring back the sparkle in no time.

Procedure For Cleaning A Diamond Ring At Home

  1. Examine Your Ring

Check if your ring has any defects, cracks, or scratch lines on the diamond. These imperfections are best dealt with by a professional jeweler. You might damage it further by cleaning it in that state. If the diamond is okay, proceed to the next step.

  1. Wash Using a Wash Up Liquid and Warm Water

Warm water helps remove any oil-based residue on the surface of your ring. The washing liquid lathers well and does not contain abrasive substances that may scratch your ring.

Start by letting the diamond ring soak in the solution for about half an hour. Then, use a toothbrush to clean the ring gently. Be sure to clean every corner of the ring, including underneath the diamond piece.

  1. Rinse Under Running Water

After a thorough cleaning, rinse the ring under running water for about a minute. Plug the ring so that it doesn't fall into the sink under the force of running water. You may repeat the procedure if necessary.

  1. Dry Your Ring

You may let your ring air dry or wipe it dry with a linen or cotton cloth. Avoid paper towels as they may scratch the surface of the diamond.

  1. Polish Your Ring

Rub your ring over the polishing cloth to give it a shine and improve the brilliance of the stone. Keep your polishing cloth in a sealed bag to prevent it from collecting dust.

An alternative method involves soaking your ring in vodka for a few hours and letting it air dry afterwards.
