The latest buzz at Hyde Park Jewelers
is all about a new square cut diamond that is head-turning in
its innovation and beauty. And it's available exclusively at
Hyde Park Jewelers.
The proprietary diamond cut-called the
"Classica" and available in sizes ranging from ¾ carats to 2
carats-was in the making for a full year before being
introduced by Hyde Park in late 2004. Michael Pollak, Steven
Rosdal and Bruce Chase, Director of Diamond Merchandising for
Hyde Park, had a hunch that this cut, incorporating aspects of
the ever-popular princess cut with enhanced fire, would be a
hit. Customers have responded to the "Classica" diamond with
zealous enthusiasm.
Developing new cuts in diamonds is a
rarity to begin with. Even more unusual is the fact that a new
cut in any gemstone generally comes to market through the
cutters, not by design of a retailer. The trio worked closely
with diamond cutters to define precisely the proportions in a
square stone that would flash the rainbow of colors normally
achieved in a round diamond.
The Classica incorporates a step cut
on top with a modified brilliant cut on the bottom, 70 facets
in all. The corners of the stone are cut at a 135 degree angle
and the tolerances for proportions are exceedingly tight,
lending to the brilliance and fire. Already several brides
have selected the Classica cut as theirs.
"We knew what we wanted to achieve,"
says Chase. "The Classica is very unique and already very
popular." Future brides like the idea that their diamond is
unique, unlike the princess cut that is seen
everywhere.
